Pre-Fallin’ 2017

We are well into August and my fall 2017 must covet fashion list is developing at rapid speed.  I can’t switch gears fast enough to cultivate the delicious harvest of robust style ahead.

As we transition to the colorful fall landscape menswear, statement tops, leather and denim are here and now.  We later add dashes of spice, leopard print, and floral brocade.  My new Shades of Fall Collection works back to all of these trends and pairs perfectly with this panorama to complement all your fashion choices.

I have curated beautiful fall shades for Laini Cosmetics to correspond with the fall fashion report where velvet is at the top of the list and so are my luscious liquid velvet matte lipsticks.   Drenched with Vitamin E and Vanilla to hydrate and nourish your lips with a highly-pigmented, full-coverage, long-wear formula.

The Tomboy Chic Palette houses 12 captivating shades of triple-milled rich pigment eyeshadows for extreme color payoff to create your chicest eye look yet.

The Fierce Factor Lipstick Palette delivers a spectrum of lush fall color infused with Vitamin E and Vanilla Extract for a powerful pout that looks effortless and refreshing.

Brows will be on fleek like our favorite Game of Thrones female characters with my new brow cream liner to perfect and define your brows.  This new cream formula is smudge proof, water resistant and can also be used as an eyeliner.

Experience skin that is matte and flawless with my new Mousse Foundation.  A cream to powder hybrid formula that has a light velvety texture for light-medium coverage to ace your base from desk to dinner.

Perimenopause: Skincare and Makeup….Part Two

I hope you enjoyed the long holiday weekend and the start of summer.  I took a much needed break and unplugged for a little while.

While driving to and from different places on vacation, I encountered many construction signs and roadblocks.  I recognized these signs as a metaphor for the second part of my blog post – Perimenopause: Skincare and Makeup…Part Two.  This is a sensitive time in your life when you must pay special attention to the many symptoms shining a bright light on Perimenopause.  You need to yield and slow down in order to continue your journey and proceed to your highlighted route.

In my previous blog post I defined key ingredients you should look for in your skincare products that will assist in nurturing your skin to give you the best results in these delicate years.  These ingredients should also be found in your makeup, i.e., foundation, tinted moisturizer, BB cream, etc.  Referencing my earlier Web MD Magazine Expert feature, “Trust your foundation to be the last step in your skin care regimen instead of the first step in your makeup application.”  A vital tip when trying to maintain balance in your skin during this fragile time.

One of my most coveted products is my BB Cream (an essential element in my beauty routine) drenched with aloe, cucumber and ginseng extract.  I wanted to be sure to offer a part skincare, part makeup ready-to-wear product that provides superior skin protection while hydrating with sheer, radiant coverage that restores light to your skin.  My BB Cream is meant to be worn alone to capture a youthful glow but you can certainly layer it or wear under a more heavy coverage foundation for flawlessly smooth no-filter needed skin.

Never underestimate the power of the brow especially as we age!  A thicker defined brow delivers a more youthful appearance and overall lifted look.  Your brows are the frame and focal point of your face.  Many women start to lose brow hair or it just won’t grow back from the many years of waxing and tweezing.  I have fabulous brow products that are easy to use to achieve your desired look without an hour-long YouTube tutorial.

Moisturize your skin from head to toe including your hair.  Hair tends to lack moisture, become very dry and grow at a glacial pace around 45.  One of my personal favorite hair care lines is Oribe.  I simply adore this line as it restores and protects your locks.  I am borderline obsessed with the signature scent!  It’s outrageously delicious!

Fifty is clearly not the new 40 but our greatest years are still ahead as long as we take the time out to care for ourselves and know we are fabulous at any age.  I’m just getting started!

I do hope these tips I have shared will help you during this time.

Perimenopause: Skincare and Makeup…Part One

The years leading up to menopause defined as perimenopause can be quite daunting and challenging to our emotional and physical well-being.   Fatigue, hot flashes, anxiety, mood swings, bloating, headaches, irritability, lack of focus, foggy brain, sleep disruption and dry skin are just to name a few of the many symptoms you may be experiencing.  I know this all too well as I am in the thick of it and have been for quite a few years.  Symptoms can start as young as 38 and since I will be celebrating the fabulous age of 50 in September, I would like to take the time to help you understand skincare and makeup in these delicate years.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Perimenopause!

I have experienced so many changes with regard to my skin and that of my clients with the number one complaint as “feeling lack-luster and dry” no matter what the season.  Time and time again while I am applying makeup to my clients their skin is super dry including their lips (though I must admit I see this with my younger clients as well).  My advice is always drink plenty of water and green tea, exfoliate and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

If you are familiar with Laini Cosmetics you know that all of my products are infused with ingredients to address these concerns including vitamin C; hence my C-Suite skincare collection and vitamin E; all of my lip products are drenched in vitamin E to keep your lips soft and hydrated.  Of course, a skincare regimen in your early years is a prerequisite to achieving healthy skin throughout your life time no matter what phase or Act you might be in.

It is imperative to nourish your skin with topical skincare products during perimenopause (as well as taking supplements) containing collagen, vitamins C, D and E; chamomile extract, aloe vera, cucumber extract and shea butter.

Let’s start with a lesson on these key ingredients and their benefits for your skin….

Collagen – the most abundant protein in the body responsible for skin strength and elasticity

Vitamin C – reduces fine lines and wrinkles; stimulates new collagen

Vitamin D – enhances radiance and builds elasticity which is lost in the aging process

Vitamin E – antioxidant and skin-conditioning active that restores lost moisture

Chamomile Extract – Soothes irritated and problematic skin; contains flavonoids that can diminish skin blemishes

Aloe Vera – A cellular regenerator that has antibacterial effects and anti-inflammatory properties

Cucumber Extract – A natural astringent that is an anti-inflammatory and skin soother

Shea Butter –Moisturizing and nourishing

The days may be long but the years are short and I hope this topic of discussion is helpful in navigating your transition into menopause.

Stay tuned for Perimenopause: Skincare and Makeup…Part Two.

The Statement Sleeve… A Wardrobe Game Changer

Did one of my favorite cable series influence the statement sleeve trend?

Perhaps it was Black Sails that gave way to this exaggeration but the voguish flair is here to stay.  I must admit I was a bit obsessed with the male characters and their costumes for four seasons.  Captains James Flint, Charles Vane, Edward Teach, Jack Rackham and John Silver were brilliant men ahead of their time in wardrobe and accessories that spoke to my inner Spanish DNA… and those belt buckles!

The sexy beautiful drape of the sleeve paired with a slim pant or jean and a delicious pair of pumps is all you need to balance this silhouette to take you from desk to dinner.  Be sure to tuck a structured clutch under your arm for all-out style.  Featured are several interpretations of the statement sleeve to pay tribute to “black” sails from catwalk to sidewalk.

Tie the look together with sleek hair, an intense lip and a thick cat eye with my Darkside Matte Lipstick and InkJet Eyeliner.   For maximum drama let your eyes do the talking with my new Gazelle lashes to add volume to the corner of your eyes.  One of four new lashes in my Lovelight lash collection.
